The Team



Heath Scanlon (Senior Pilot)

Heath has been an employee of CHC Australia since 2001. He was previously employed on the RAAF contract in Perth, WA before commencing work at RACQ CQ RESCUE in 2007. Heath is currently the Senior Pilot at RACQ CQ RESCUE.


Alex Crawford (Pilot)

Prior to commencing work at RACQ CQ RESCUE Alex was employed by a national helicopter company working out of Mackay. He has experience flying various makes of helicopters including A109; S76A,C; AS350; B412; MD500; B47 and R22 and since commencing work at RACQ CQ RESCUE in July 2006 he has been flying a Bell 412 and a Dauphin 365C1.


Brendon Barron (Pilot)

Brendon is one of out latest recruits. He has lived in Mackay for a number of years and preciously operated a local helicopter company. Brendon commenced work at RACQ CQ RESCUE in 2009.


Dave Williams

Rick Kendall (Pilot)

Along with Brendon, Rick is another of our latest recruits with both pilots being employed in CHC Australia around the same time. Although Rick has worked in too many locations to mention, he has worked in Mackay for quite some time before coming to RACQ CQ RESCUE in 2009.



RACQ CQ RESCUE does not directly employ Engineers, Pilots and Air Crewmen. As part of the contract with CHC Helicopters (the largest helicopter company in the world), they supply the helicopter used for rescue missions and a back-up helicopter. The Engineers, Pilots and Air Crewmen are employed by CHC Helicopters and contracted to RACQ CQ RESCUE.

The Rescue Team

Phillip Dowler
(Rescue Crewman/General Manager)

Phil began working with RACQ CQ RESCUE in 2001 in a role which predominantly included business operations on a daily basis. Shortly after commencement Phil trained to become an Aircrew Officer and until recently filled the role of standby crewman assisting with aero-medical and rescue missions when needed. He continues assist as Rescue Crewman when the need arises.


Darren Bobin (Base Manager/Air Crewman)

Darren commenced work at RACQ CQ RESCUE as a trainee Rescue Crewman in April 2006 and fast-tracked his traineeship to become an Air Crewman in July 2007. Since then he has taken on the roles of OH & S representative and more recently accepted the poition of Base Manager in Mackay within CHC Australia.


Paul Price (Air crewman)

Paul's role as an aircrew officer entails winch operations, assisting medical personnel and acting as his Pilot's 'right hand man'. Paul's career commenced in 1989 when he joined the Army. He held various positions within the Army in infantry and aviation corps. In 2003 he became an air crewman on HEMS 3 (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, Victoria) operating out of Bendigo. Paul's start date with
RACQ CQ RESCUE is August 2007.


Dave Williams

David Williams (Air Crewman)

Dave commenced work at RACQ CQ RESCUE in 2006 as a Trainee Rescue Crewman. After spending sometime away in Orange, NSW, Dave returned to take up a full time position at RACQ CQ RESCUE as Air Crewman in April 2010.



All crew members hold advanced certificates in first aid and must regularly pass physical fitness tests. They must also participate in frequent training exercises ensuring their certificates of currency are kept up to date.

Another wild goose-chase

May 5 2010

The RACQ CQ RESCUE crew was tasked to search for an active beacon earlier today. Once in the air the EPIRB signal was tracked by the rescue crew to Proserpine.
