Search for overdue yatch

February 22 2010

The RACQ – CQ RESCUE helicopter crew is currently preparing for a search off the coast of Mackay for an overdue yacht. The yacht with the sole occupant on board left Yeppoon last Tuesday to sail to Mackay but there has been no contact from the yachtsman. He was due to start a course in Mackay this morning but hasn’t shown up.

The rescue helicopter crew from Mackay will search in the vicinity of the Beverley Group of islands in the hope that the young yachtsman is sheltering from the weather.

Whitsunday Water Police has tasked RACQ – CQ RESCUE – there has bee no EPIRB activation from the 24 foot yacht.
